From a posterior close-up, the plantar heel and calcaneal region are centered, with the calcaneus (heel bone) forming the most inferior prominence of the foot and the Achilles tendon descending along the midline to insert on the posterior calcaneal tuberosity. Medially and laterally, the contour transitions into the calcaneal walls and the soft-tissue envelope, including the thick glabrous skin and underlying heel fat pad that cushions weight bearing. Blue-highlighted zones over the posterior and plantar heel draw attention to common pressure and attachment areas, where the superficial fascia, calcaneal fat pad septa, and the proximal plantar aponeurosis relate closely to the bony tuberosity. Posterior heel anatomy matters because small changes at the Achilles insertion and adjacent bursae can drive disproportionate pain and gait limitation.
