Centered within an anterior female figure in anatomical position, the alimentary canal runs from the cervical esophagus inferiorly through the thorax to the abdominal stomach, then continues as the coiled small intestine framed by the large intestine. The stomach sits in the left upper quadrant, with the esophagogastric junction positioned just inferior to the diaphragm, and the pyloric region transitioning to the proximal duodenum on the right. Jejunal and ileal loops occupy the central abdomen, while the colon forms a peripheral course with the ascending colon on the subject’s right, transverse colon superiorly, and descending colon on the subject’s left before continuing into the sigmoid colon and rectum in the pelvis.
