Description
Viewed in lateral profile during quiet standing, the right foot (pes) is read from posterior calcaneus to distal phalanges, with the heel pad inferior to the calcaneal tuberosity and the forefoot extending anteriorly along the longitudinal arch. Along the lateral border, the cuboid sits anterior to the calcaneus and proximal to the bases of the fourth and fifth metatarsals, while the lateral malleolar region and hindfoot contour orient the ankle to the rearfoot. Blue toe-sock style coverings outline the hallux and lesser toes yet still preserve the silhouette of the lateral midfoot and the plantar curve under the calcaneus. A weightbearing lateral view matters because it ties surface form to load transfer, from the calcaneus through the lateral column (calcaneus to cuboid to fourth and fifth metatarsals) while the medial arch remains implied by the plantar profile. Clinically, this is the side you reference when teaching fifth metatarsal base injuries (avulsion at the tuberosity versus a Jones fracture more distal) and when discussing peroneus brevis and longus tendon mechanics as they course posterior to the lateral malleolus and influence eversion stability. Heel alignment and Achilles tendon insertion at the posterior calcaneus also read cleanly here. Clean landmarks.
