Positioned on the visceral (inferior) surface of the right lobe of the liver, the gallbladder is shown with its rounded fundus projecting inferiorly beyond the liver margin, continuous posteriorly and medially with the body and tapering into the neck. From the neck, the cystic duct courses superomedially toward the porta hepatis (liver hilum) to join the common hepatic duct and form the common bile duct, aligning the extrahepatic biliary tree within the hepatoduodenal ligament.
