Positioned on a lateral facial profile, the highlighted infraorbital region overlies the anterior maxilla, extending from the lateral aspect of the nose across the malar (cheek) prominence toward the zygomaticomaxillary junction. The marked area corresponds to the course and cutaneous distribution of the infraorbital nerve as it emerges from the infraorbital foramen inferior to the orbital rim, then fans laterally over the buccal cheek to supply the lower eyelid, lateral nose, upper lip, and adjacent maxillary vestibule. Superiorly it approaches the inferior orbital margin and orbital septum, while inferiorly it transitions into the maxillary (buccal) soft tissues overlying the canine fossa and anterior wall of the maxillary sinus. Surface anatomy matters here. Clinically, this is the target territory for an infraorbital nerve block performed intraorally at the mucobuccal fold above the maxillary premolars or externally by palpating the infraorbital foramen, a technique used for laceration repair and procedural anesthesia of the upper lip and lower eyelid. Midface trauma frequently injures this nerve in zygomaticomaxillary complex and orbital floor fractures, producing hypoesthesia in the same blue-marked distribution and guiding both diagnosis and counseling. Aesthetic injectors also map this zone carefully, because dermal fillers placed too close to the infraorbital vessels can cause bruising or, rarely, vascular compromise.
