Description

Centered on the groin (inguen), this anterior surface rendering frames the inguinal region along the inferolateral abdominal wall of an adult Black male, spanning from the anterior superior iliac spine laterally to the pubic tubercle medially. The course of the inguinal ligament can be inferred as a superficial band running obliquely between those bony landmarks, forming the superior border of the femoral triangle and the inferior margin of the abdominal wall. Just superior and parallel to that line lies the expected position of the inguinal canal, with the deep inguinal ring lateral to the inferior epigastric vessels and the superficial ring nearer the pubic crest. Blue triangular markers indicate the target surface anatomy. Groin anatomy lives at the junction of abdominal wall mechanics and urogenital and lower-limb pathways, so small positional differences matter. Direct inguinal hernias protrude medial to the inferior epigastric vessels through Hesselbach’s triangle, while indirect hernias pass lateral to those vessels and can track along the canal toward the scrotum, a distinction that guides both examination and repair. Femoral hernias, by contrast, present inferior to the inguinal ligament and medial to the femoral vein, a high-stakes differential because incarceration is more common. Palpable landmarks anchor all of it. Use this asset when you need clean surface mapping for teaching abdominal wall anatomy, documenting hernia exam landmarks in a surgical or primary care handbook, or illustrating incision planning and mesh placement concepts for open inguinal herniorrhaphy. It also fits well in anatomy lab manuals and patient education graphics where skin tone representation and clear groin boundaries matter.
