Description
Anterior trunk surface anatomy is presented for an adult African male, centered on the integument over the clavicles, sternum, pectoral region, and upper abdominal wall. The epidermis and dermis are implied as the visible cutaneous covering, with a sparse distribution of terminal hair across the presternal skin and upper chest and denser follicles toward the upper abdomen. Superficial contours of the pectoralis major lie deep to the skin, shaping the anterior thoracic wall laterally toward the anterior axillary folds. Skin texture reads differently across regions. Attention to dermal texture and pigmentation in this demographic matters in day to day clinical pattern recognition, from distinguishing benign perifollicular prominence and pseudofolliculitis barbae tendencies from inflammatory folliculitis, to judging erythema, bruising, or cyanosis when contrast is lower than in lightly pigmented skin. The anterior chest is also a common site for acne keloidalis nuchae extension, hypertrophic scarring, and keloid formation after minor trauma, piercings, or surgical incisions. For procedural teaching, this surface view supports discussions of Langer lines on the thorax and why incision planning across the sternum and parasternal region influences scar spread and patient satisfaction. Ideal uses include dermatology and primary care teaching materials on cutaneous examination in darker skin tones, anatomy lab introductions to the integumentary system (epidermis, dermis, adnexal structures), and medical publishing layouts that need a clean, front facing reference of male chest skin without distracting props. It also fits patient education on scar risk, follicular disorders, and postoperative wound care on the anterior thorax. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
