Description
Anterior pelvic anatomy is rendered with the os coxae (ilium, ischium, and pubis) flanking the sacrum in the midline, with the pubic symphysis forming the anterior junction and the acetabula positioned inferolaterally for femoral head articulation. Along the pelvic brim, the arcuate line and pecten pubis outline the pelvic inlet, while the obturator foramina sit inferior to the superior pubic rami. Proximal thigh compartments enter the field below the inguinal region, where iliopsoas and adjacent anterior abdominal wall layers relate to the superior pubic ramus and anterior superior iliac spine. Neurovascular coloring maps the internal and external iliac systems as they course medial to the iliacus and toward the femoral canal, with lumbosacral plexus branches running posterolateral to the pelvic viscera and into the thigh. Female pelvic proportions matter. A wider subpubic angle and broader inlet change obstetric mechanics and also shift surgical corridors during pelvic lymphadenectomy, hysterectomy, and anterior approaches to the hip. Pelvic ring trauma illustrates the same anatomy in an emergency context: disruption near the pubic rami or sacroiliac region risks brisk hemorrhage from internal iliac branches and venous plexuses, while associated neuropathy can follow traction or compression of the obturator nerve, femoral nerve, or more posteriorly the sciatic nerve. Small mistakes bleed.
