Deep to this diamond-shaped interval lie the popliteal artery and popliteal vein, with the tibial nerve running most superficial in the midline and the common fibular (peroneal) nerve tracking along the lateral border toward the fibular neck. The small saphenous vein and sural nerve typically approach the fossa superficially before draining or continuing proximally, and popliteal lymph nodes sit in the fat posterior to the joint capsule and oblique popliteal ligament. Blue markers over the posterior knee and proximal calf emphasize the fossa region relative to the gastrocnemius bellies. Landmarks are clear.
