Description

Presented as a full-body anterior figure of an adult Black woman, the illustration integrates superficial musculature with the major visceral organ systems of the thorax, abdomen, and pelvis. Pectoralis major and the rectus abdominis frame the body wall, while the heart sits medial and slightly left of midline between the lungs, superior to the diaphragm and the upper abdominal viscera. Inferior to the diaphragm, the liver occupies the right upper quadrant with the stomach and spleen on the left, and the kidneys lie retroperitoneal and posterior to the abdominal contents; the uterus and adnexa are positioned inferiorly in the lesser pelvis, deep to the anterior abdominal wall. Arterial and venous trunks track centrally (aorta and venae cavae) with peripheral branching into the upper limbs, and lymphatic channels with regional nodes are emphasized in the cervical, axillary, and inguinal basins. Clear landmarks. Breast anatomy is rendered with glandular tissue and ductal pathways converging toward the nipple-areolar complex, with lymphatic drainage directed laterally toward the axillary nodes and medially toward parasternal pathways, a relationship that explains common patterns of breast carcinoma spread and guides sentinel lymph node biopsy. Nerve trajectories and major vessel courses support teaching of iatrogenic risk zones, including intercostobrachial nerve irritation after axillary surgery and vascular injury considerations during central venous access or mastectomy flap elevation. Muscular overlays help orient depth and surgical planes. Use this artwork in undergraduate gross anatomy and physiology courses, OB-GYN and breast surgery teaching files, and patient-education materials discussing organ location, lymphatic drainage, and systemic circulation in women. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
