Seen in lateral profile, the adult male head is defined by the cranial vault (cranium) curving from the frontal bone region anteriorly over the parietal eminence to the occipital contour posteriorly, with the scalp draped superficially across these bony landmarks. Inferiorly, the caput transitions into the cervical region at the nuchal line area, where the posterior hairline commonly overlies the external occipital protuberance and superior nuchal lines. Anteriorly, the facial outline is implied at the frontal and supraorbital region, while the posterior border of the mandible and mastoid region would sit just anterior to the upper neck in a true lateral head view.
