Along the lateral aspect of the adult male leg (sura), the gastrocnemius is seen superficial and posterior, its lateral head forming the prominent proximal calf contour inferior to the popliteal fossa. Distal to it, the soleus contributes a broader, flatter muscle belly that remains deep to gastrocnemius, converging inferiorly into the calcaneal (Achilles) tendon. Anterior to the triceps surae, the fibularis (peroneus) longus and brevis occupy the lateral compartment along the fibula, with the lateral malleolus providing the distal bony landmark.
