Description
Seen in lateral profile, the female upper limb is presented as a continuous column from the shoulder girdle to the hand, with the humerus oriented proximodistally between the glenohumeral region and the elbow, and the radius and ulna extending to the wrist. Proximally, the deltoid contour overlies the lateral aspect of the shoulder, while the lateral epicondyle region marks the transition from brachium to antebrachium. Distally, the dorsolateral wrist leads into the hand, where the thumb lies on the radial (lateral) side and the ulnar border defines the medial margin in anatomical position. Bony landmarks and surface form are emphasized over cutaway anatomy. Lateral views of the arm and forearm matter because they clarify flexion and extension relationships around the elbow and wrist that are harder to read in an anterior or posterior presentation.
