Oriented with the dorsum of the male hand facing the viewer, the dorsal metacarpal arteries run distally in the intermetacarpal spaces, closely applied to the dorsal surfaces of the metacarpal shafts and aligned with the second through fourth interosseous intervals. Proximally, these vessels arise from the dorsal carpal arch and then maintain a straight course before bifurcating near the metacarpal heads into dorsal digital branches that approach the adjacent sides of the fingers. Superficial dorsal veins, including the dorsal venous network and veins converging toward the cephalic (lateral, radial) and basilic (medial, ulnar) pathways, are represented in blue overlying the arterial pattern.
