Description
Seen from the posterior body surface, the paired supraspinatus muscles occupy the supraspinous fossae of the scapulae, lying superior to the scapular spine and deep to the overlying skin of the upper back. Each muscle belly courses laterally toward the acromion and the humeral head, where its tendon passes beneath the coracoacromial arch to blend with the rotator cuff at the greater tubercle.
