Description
Anterior thigh anatomy is isolated on a dark-skinned adult female in standard anatomical position, with the highlighted field spanning from the inguinal region to mid-thigh. Superficially, the contour corresponds to the quadriceps femoris mass, with rectus femoris centered and vastus lateralis and vastus medialis forming the lateral and medial borders over the anterior femur. Proximally, the femoral triangle lies just inferior to the inguinal ligament, where the femoral nerve sits lateral to the femoral artery and vein, and the sartorius crosses obliquely from lateral hip toward the medial knee, defining the triangle’s lateral boundary. Teaching the anterior thigh benefits from a clean, front-facing reference because most access points and surface landmarks are anterior. Femoral arterial puncture and catheterization target the common femoral artery just inferior to the inguinal ligament, where a clear mental map of the femoral triangle prevents inadvertent venous puncture or nerve injury.
