Beneath the skin and hair, the muscles of facial expression (frontalis, orbicularis oculi, zygomaticus major, orbicularis oris, buccinator, masseter) relate to the parotid region laterally, where branches of the facial nerve radiate anteriorly across the cheek. Deep to the mandible and sternocleidomastoid, the common carotid artery ascends medial to the internal jugular vein, with the vagus nerve coursing within the carotid sheath, while more superiorly the cranial cavity is represented by the brain in situ with arterial supply and venous drainage implied by the visible cervical vessels. Key spatial relationships are clear: the internal jugular remains lateral to the carotid, and the cervical sympathetic trunk lies posterior-medial to the sheath. A clean dissection plane.
