Centered in a superior view, the T7 vertebra presents the vertebral body anteriorly and the vertebral arch posteriorly, enclosing a relatively small, rounded vertebral foramen typical of the mid thoracic spine. Pedicles form the anterolateral walls of the canal and run posteriorly to the laminae, which meet in the midline at the base of the spinous process. Laterally, the transverse processes project from the pedicle lamina junction, while the superior articular processes sit posterolateral to the foramen with their facets oriented to receive the T6 inferior articular facets. Blue-highlighted articular surfaces call out the zygapophysial joints and adjacent contact points. Mid thoracic vertebrae matter because they define a narrower spinal canal than the cervical or lumbar regions, so canal-occupying lesions can become symptomatic with less margin for error.
