Description
Viewed from an occlusal (superior) perspective, the highlighted mandibular second premolar (second bicuspid) is isolated against the curve of the dental arch, with the crown’s enamel cap rendered transparent to reveal underlying dentine. A central developmental groove crosses the occlusal table between the buccal and lingual cusps, with marginal ridges forming the mesial and distal boundaries of the chewing surface. Surrounding teeth, including the mandibular first premolar, canines, incisors, and posterior molars, provide positional context along the arch, while the adjacent alveolar process is shown semi-transparently to orient the tooth within the jaw. Occlusal morphology of the mandibular second premolar matters because it drives both function and failure: pits, fissures, and the central groove pattern are the map for occlusal caries and for preventive sealant placement.
