Along the superficial contour you would expect the brachioradialis to form the anterolateral mass of the proximal forearm, with extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis tracking distally toward the radial styloid. Posteriorly, the extensor digitorum compartment occupies the dorsolateral forearm, while flexor-pronator structures sit more anterior and medial, partially obscured by the lateral viewpoint. Lateral forearm anatomy matters because it is the corridor where osseous landmarks and neurovascular structures guide both examination and intervention, from palpating the radial head and radial styloid to tracking the superficial branch of the radial nerve as it emerges between brachioradialis and extensor carpi radialis longus in the distal third of the forearm.
