Description
Positioned in the right upper quadrant beneath the costal margin, the liver is rendered from an anterior close-up perspective with the large right lobe extending laterally and inferiorly beyond the smaller left lobe as it crosses toward the epigastrium. A clear interlobar plane is suggested by the course of the falciform ligament on the anterior surface, separating right and left hepatic parenchyma in surface anatomy terms. Expected landmarks for this orientation include the inferior border approaching the right hypochondrium and the superior dome rising toward the diaphragm.
