Description
Superficial soft tissues of the male anterior forearm are rendered semi-translucent to reveal the flexor compartment beneath, with the flexor carpi ulnaris highlighted in red along the ulnar (medial) border from proximal forearm toward the pisiform at the wrist. Radial (lateral) to it lie the flexor digitorum superficialis and the long flexor tendons tracking distally toward the palm, while the more proximal pronator teres crosses obliquely from the medial epicondylar region toward the lateral radius. Distal to the musculotendinous junctions, pale tendons pass anterior to the carpus into the palmar hand, aligning with the digits and framing the central palmar aponeurosis. Medial-sided wrist pain and loss of grip often trace back to this anatomy: the flexor carpi ulnaris tendon inserts on the pisiform and continues via the pisohamate and pisometacarpal ligaments toward the hook of hamate and base of the fifth metacarpal, making it a common driver of pisotriquetral irritation and tendinopathy in racquet sports and manual work. Just radial to the FCU tendon sits Guyon canal, where the ulnar nerve and artery can be compressed, so this anterior perspective helps correlate surface landmarks with sensory changes in the ulnar one and a half digits and weakness of intrinsic hand muscles. Short and direct. It also clarifies why carpal tunnel syndrome spares the palmar cutaneous branch of the median nerve while still producing digital paresthesia, given the different courses of the palmar structures at the wrist. Use this plate for upper-limb anatomy teaching on the antebrachium, for hand surgery and sports medicine texts discussing ulnar-sided wrist pain, or for patient-facing education in hand therapy when explaining tendon loading and grip mechanics.
