Description
Anterior male lower limbs are presented in anatomical position from the pelvis to the feet, with bilateral symmetry allowing left to right comparison. Proximally, the anterior thigh highlights the quadriceps femoris group, including rectus femoris in the midline with vastus lateralis and vastus medialis flanking it, while the sartorius courses obliquely from the anterior superior iliac spine toward the medial knee. Inferior to the patella, the patellar ligament continues to the tibial tuberosity, and the anterior compartment of the leg is defined by tibialis anterior along the lateral border of the tibia, extensor hallucis longus more medially, and extensor digitorum longus laterally, continuing distally toward the dorsum of the foot. Medial and lateral malleoli frame the ankle region. Clear landmarks. This anterior orientation matters when teaching extensor mechanism anatomy and tracking anterior knee pain: malalignment of the quadriceps vector and lateral retinacular tightness can contribute to patellofemoral pain syndrome, and the relationship of vastus medialis to the patella is a common teaching point. The same view supports discussion of tibial tuberosity tenderness in Osgood-Schlatter disease and compartment-specific weakness patterns, such as foot drop from deep fibular (peroneal) nerve injury affecting tibialis anterior and toe extensors.
