Description
Centered on the mandibular dental arch, the lower incisors and canines curve posteriorly into the premolars and molars, all seated within a semi-transparent mandible that reveals their roots embedded in alveolar bone. On the patient’s right, the third mandibular molar is singled out in blue at the distal end of the molar row, positioned posterior to the second molar and adjacent to the ascending ramus. From this anterior perspective, the crown morphology reads in the context of the entire dentition, while the distal root complex disappears toward the posterior body of the mandible. Trabecular patterning and the cortical outline of the mandibular body remain visible through the transparency. Clinical relevance concentrates at that posterior corner of the jaw. Limited retromolar space and the proximity of the third molar to the anterior border of the ramus explain why this tooth so often presents as partially erupted or impacted, with pericoronitis, distal caries on the second molar, and periodontal defects as common downstream problems.
