Superficial contours outline the anterior tibial crest and the paired malleoli distally, while the posterior calf mass corresponds to the gastrocnemius and soleus converging into the calcaneal (Achilles) tendon inserting on the posterior calcaneus. Along the lateral side, the fibular (peroneal) muscle group occupies the compartment between the anterior extensors and posterior plantarflexors, tracking distally behind the lateral malleolus.
