From an anterior (palmar) viewpoint, the male fifth digit is shown with the volar pad of the distal phalanx prominent and the pulp centered over the distal tuft. Distal and slightly dorsal to the pad lies the hyponychium and nail plate margin, while proximally the skin creases mark the distal interphalangeal and proximal interphalangeal flexion folds. Along the medial and lateral borders of the digit, the soft tissue contours correspond to the expected course of the proper palmar digital neurovascular bundles. Palmar surface anatomy of the little finger matters when you need to correlate surface landmarks with underlying tendon and neurovascular structures during examination or procedures.
