Description
Centered on the adult male face, the frontal bone forms the superior forehead and supraorbital margins, while the paired nasal bones sit midline and articulate inferiorly with the maxillae. Lateral to the piriform aperture, the zygomatic bones project to form the prominence of the cheeks and continue posteriorly as the zygomatic arches, with the orbit framed by contributions from the frontal, zygomatic, and maxillary bones. Inferiorly, the mandible defines the lower facial skeleton, its body meeting at the mental protuberance and extending laterally toward the rami, which rise posteriorly toward the temporomandibular joints.
