Seen in lateral profile, the posterior contour of the male cubitus is defined by the olecranon process of the ulna projecting proximally and posteriorly, with the triceps brachii tendon inserting onto its superior surface. Just anterior to the olecranon, the distal humerus forms the hinge of the elbow at the trochlea, while the radial head sits anterolateral at the level of the capitulum. Superficial soft tissues drape over the dorsal aspect of the elbow, with the olecranon bursa interposed between skin and bone at the point of the elbow. A sharp bony landmark.
