Description

Depicted from a superficial, half-view perspective, the adult female form is presented with clear surface landmarks from head to foot, including the scalp and auricle superiorly, the clavicle and acromion laterally, and the sternum and costal margin along the anterior thoracic wall. Breast contour with the areola sits anterior to the pectoral region, while the umbilicus marks the midline of the anterior abdominal wall superior to the pubic symphysis. Inferiorly, the iliac crest and anterior superior iliac spine bracket the pelvis, and the greater trochanter lies lateral to the inguinal region as the thigh transitions to the patella, tibial crest, and the medial and lateral malleoli at the ankle. Surface anatomy matters here because many bedside decisions start with what the clinician can palpate and what they must avoid: the relationship of the breast to the inframammary fold guides incision planning in reduction and mastectomy, and the sternum, xiphoid process, and costal margin anchor CPR hand placement and thoracic examination. Pelvic and hip landmarks, including the iliac crest and greater trochanter, support safe intramuscular injection site selection (ventrogluteal versus dorsogluteal) and help orient evaluation of femoral neck fracture, hip dislocation, or gait-related limb length discrepancy. Small asymmetries read as normal variation. Gross proportions and superficial contours are intentionally foregrounded. Use this artwork in gross anatomy and surface anatomy teaching, OSCE and nursing physical assessment materials, and patient-facing handouts where an accurate female body reference improves communication around breast, abdominal, and pelvic examinations. It also fits editorial layouts for general human anatomy chapters that need an uncluttered adult female template for callouts and overlays. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
