Description

Centered on the male forehead in anterior anatomical position, the frontal region is defined superiorly by the frontal belly of the occipitofrontalis (epicranius) overlying the frontal bone and inferiorly by the supraorbital margins forming the superior boundary of the orbits. Medially, the glabella and frontonasal region sit between the superciliary arches, with the nasal bridge descending inferiorly toward the radix. Laterally, the frontal eminences and temporal lines mark the transition toward the temporalis fossa, while the skin and subcutaneous tissues follow the gentle convexity of the squamous part of the frontal bone. Surface landmarks are the point here. Clean, teachable, and clinically familiar. An anterior frontal view matters because the forehead is both a high-impact trauma site and a common corridor for craniofacial procedures. Supraorbital rim fractures and frontal sinus injuries are evaluated relative to the supraorbital notch or foramen (transmitting the supraorbital nerve and vessels) and the contour of the brow, and laceration repair planning often follows relaxed skin tension lines to limit scar visibility. Injectables in the glabellar complex also live in this anatomy: botulinum toxin targets corrugator supercilii and procerus to soften frown lines, but poor technique risks brow ptosis when frontalis function is overtreated. Use this artwork for head and neck anatomy teaching, craniofacial trauma chapters, plastic surgery and dermatology education on forehead flaps and aesthetic injection mapping, and patient-facing materials explaining forehead lacerations, contusions, and frontal bone fractures.
