Posterior trunk anatomy is rendered with emphasis on the male abdominal wall as it relates to the dorsum, centering on the lumbar region where the latissimus dorsi sweeps inferolaterally and the external oblique runs anteroinferiorly toward the iliac crest. Medial to these muscle borders, the erector spinae mass forms a vertical column alongside the spinous processes, while the inferior margin of the 12th rib sits superior to the iliac crest and frames the superior aspect of the lumbar triangle. Depth is suggested through layered musculature, with the floor of the lumbar triangle aligning with the internal oblique and, deeper, the transversus abdominis and thoracolumbar fascia.
