Superior to the bony prominence, the lower lip transitions into the labiomental sulcus, underlain by the paired mentalis muscle, with depressor labii inferioris and depressor anguli oris coursing inferolaterally toward the mandibular body. Laterally on each side, the mental foramen is positioned on the anterolateral mandible, transmitting the mental nerve and vessels as they emerge to supply the skin of the chin and the lower lip.
