Posteriorly oriented, this female shoulder blade region centers on the scapula with its spine running transversely to the acromion, dividing the supraspinous and infraspinous fossae, and continuing laterally toward the glenohumeral region. The medial (vertebral) border lies parallel to the thoracic spinous processes, while the lateral (axillary) border slopes toward the posterior axillary fold and the inferior angle sits inferior and medial to the humeral head. Overlying contours correspond to trapezius superiorly and medially, posterior deltoid laterally, and the deeper scapular stabilizers (rhomboid major and minor, levator scapulae, infraspinatus, teres minor, and teres major) arranged from the medial border toward the lateral border and inferior angle. Clear bony landmarks. This posterior scapular view matters because scapular position and motion drive both shoulder mechanics and clinical exam findings, and it gives the clearest perspective on the relationship between the scapular spine, acromion, and the infraspinatus and teres muscle bellies that border the quadrilateral space.
