Along that rim, the plasma membrane defines the cell boundary while the nucleus sits eccentrically and appears flattened, pushed toward the cell periphery by the lipid vacuole. Scattered organelles in the cortical cytoplasm, including mitochondria and elements of endoplasmic reticulum, remain visible as small basophilic structures around the droplet. Minimal extracellular space separates adjacent cells, consistent with tightly packed white adipose tissue architecture. This morphology is the teaching hallmark of white fat, and it helps you distinguish energy-storing adipocytes from multilocular brown adipocytes in histology and metabolic physiology.
