Male Head Frontal Area

Description

Centered on the male frontal region, the forehead overlies the squamous part of the frontal bone and frames the supraorbital margins, glabella, and nasion along the midline. Superficial landmarks include the superciliary arches with the paired eyebrows, the hairline superiorly, and the root of the nose inferiorly, with the left and right temples extending laterally toward the frontozygomatic area. Deep to this surface anatomy sit the frontal sinuses within the frontal bone, separated by an intersinus septum and positioned superior to the orbits and anterior to the anterior cranial fossa. Expect the supraorbital notch or foramen to lie near the junction of the medial and middle thirds of the supraorbital rim. For clinicians, this is the working map for both sinus disease and regional anesthesia: the frontal sinus outflow tract drains via the frontonasal recess into the middle meatus, and obstruction here underlies many cases of recurrent frontal sinusitis and mucocele formation. Minor trauma at the forehead is not always minor, a frontal sinus fracture can create a communication with the anterior cranial fossa, raising concern for CSF rhinorrhea, intracranial infection, and cosmetic deformity of the anterior table. The supraorbital neurovascular bundle, emerging from the supraorbital notch/foramen, also defines safe corridors for brow incisions and guides supraorbital nerve blocks used for laceration repair or headache management.
