Description
Posterior anatomy of the adult male knee is rendered with the distal femur superior to the proximal tibia and fibula, centering the intercondylar fossa between the medial and lateral femoral condyles. Inferiorly, the tibial plateau aligns with the femoral condyles to define the tibiofemoral (femorotibial) joint line, while the fibular head sits posterolaterally as a palpable landmark. Across the back of the joint, the popliteal surface of the femur slopes into the popliteal region, immediately posterior to the capsule and cruciate ligament attachments within the intercondylar area.
