Description
Seen from the external plantar aspect, the male foot presents a broad calcaneal region posteriorly, a longitudinal arch along the medial border, and a flatter lateral column extending toward the fifth metatarsal head. Distally, the plantar forefoot widens into the metatarsal (ball) region, with the toes arranged from the hallux medially to the fifth digit laterally. The medial malleolar side sits superior and medial relative to the lateral malleolar side, framing the overall curvature of the plantar surface. Skin creases and the thicker, weight-bearing plantar integument are most apparent beneath the calcaneal tuberosity and the metatarsal heads.
