Description
Fetus at 34 weeks’ gestation occupies most of the amniotic cavity in a lateral profile within the gravid uterus, with the fetal head and flexed cervical spine oriented toward one side of the uterine cavity and the trunk curving along the long axis of the uterus. Placenta adheres to the uterine wall and sits superior to the internal cervical os in this frame, while the umbilical cord courses from the placental surface to the fetal umbilicus, lying anterior to the fetal abdomen. The uterine fundus forms the superior contour of the cavity, and the lower uterine segment tapers inferiorly toward the cervix.
