Description
Anterior male thigh anatomy is presented from the hip crease to just above the knee, centered on the femoral zone. Superficially, the inguinal region transitions into the femoral triangle, with the sartorius running inferomedially from the anterior superior iliac spine and the adductor longus forming the medial border, framing the femoral neurovascular bundle deep to the fascia lata. The quadriceps femoris mass dominates the anterior compartment, with rectus femoris positioned centrally and superficial, vastus lateralis lying lateral, and vastus medialis bulging medially as it approaches the patella; tensor fasciae latae and the iliotibial tract track along the lateral margin. Clinical teaching often starts here because the anterior approach makes landmarks and compartments intuitive, and it clarifies what lies immediately deep to the femoral sheath. The femoral artery, vein, and femoral nerve relationship in the femoral triangle matters for femoral arterial puncture, placement of central access, and regional anesthesia, and it also explains why femoral hernias emerge inferior to the inguinal ligament and medial to the femoral vein.
