Giardia duodenalis is rendered as a teardrop shaped trophozoite with bilateral symmetry, the broader anterior end tapering posteriorly toward the axostyle region. Paired nuclei sit anteriorly and near the midline, giving the classic face like appearance on frontal examination, while longitudinal microtubular elements imply the median bodies running centrally beneath the ventral surface.
