Description
Oriented in lateral profile, the female arm is presented with the anterior (flexor) region opened to reveal the biceps brachii lying superficial and anterior to the brachialis, with the long head tendon tracking proximally toward the intertubercular groove and the short head positioned more medially. Inferiorly, the biceps tendon narrows toward its distal attachment on the radial tuberosity, while the brachial artery and median nerve course in the medial bicipital groove, closely accompanied by the basilic vein and the medial cutaneous nerves of arm and forearm. Posterior to these anterior compartment structures, the humeral shaft forms the deep bony boundary, with the triceps brachii remaining posterior to the intermuscular septum. Clean relationships. A lateral view of the anterior arm matters when you are teaching compartmental anatomy and neurovascular corridors, because it exposes how quickly the brachial artery and median nerve shift from anteromedial in the mid arm to the cubital fossa, where the bicipital aponeurosis overlies the vessels and complicates access. This orientation also supports clinical discussions of musculocutaneous nerve injury (weak elbow flexion and forearm supination) and the common site of biceps tendon rupture near the radial tuberosity, where the distal tendon and lacertus fibrosus can be contrasted against nearby vessels and the median nerve.
