Description
Anterior exposure of the female cubital region reveals the distal humerus transitioning into the proximal ulna and radius, with the humeral trochlea articulating medially and the capitulum laterally. The ulnar and radial styloid are not in view, but the proximal radius lies lateral to the ulna as it approaches the radial notch and annular ligament. Superficially, the cubital fossa occupies the anterior elbow between the brachioradialis laterally and pronator teres medially, with the bicipital aponeurosis spreading distally from the biceps brachii tendon. Key neurovascular elements follow their expected relationships, the brachial artery and median nerve deep to the bicipital aponeurosis, and the radial nerve emerging lateral to the biceps tendon toward the brachioradialis. Clinically, this anterior elbow view matters because the cubital fossa is the corridor for arterial access and a frequent site of iatrogenic and traumatic injury. Venipuncture and cannulation at the median cubital vein risk proximity to the bicipital aponeurosis and underlying brachial artery, and a high brachial bifurcation can complicate both blood draws and pulse assessment. Distal biceps tendon rupture is assessed here, where retraction and loss of the tendon contour alter the normal anterior relationship to the radial tuberosity. Small space. High stakes.
