Sternohyoid runs vertically in the anterior midline, while sternothyroid lies deeper and terminates on the oblique line of the thyroid cartilage; thyrohyoid continues that line superiorly to the hyoid. The superior belly of omohyoid angles superomedially across the lower neck, with the thyroid cartilage, cricoid cartilage, and proximal tracheal rings forming the anterior laryngotracheal column, and the thyroid gland occupying the anterolateral trachea just inferior to the larynx. Key relationships read clearly from side-on: medial airway and larynx, lateral carotid sheath region, and superficial sternocleidomastoid contour.
