Oriented in anatomical position, the palmar (anterior) surface of a female manus is presented with the digits I to V extending distally from the metacarpal region. The thenar eminence lies radially at the base of the pollex, opposed by the hypothenar eminence on the ulnar side beneath the little finger. Prominent superficial landmarks include the distal and proximal transverse palmar creases, the thenar crease curving toward the first web space, and the digital flexion creases marking the metacarpophalangeal, proximal interphalangeal, and distal interphalangeal joints. Skin and subcutaneous contour suggest the underlying palmar aponeurosis centrally, with the pads of the fingertips and the web spaces defining the commissures between adjacent fingers. Surface anatomy on the palm is where function and pathology become visible. Dupuytren disease contracts the pretendinous bands of the palmar aponeurosis, most often tethering the ring and little fingers into flexion, and the course of those cords is easiest to teach on a clean palmar view.
