Description
Pulmonary alveoli form grape-like clusters at the terminal ends of the respiratory tree, and this illustration focuses on their external contour as a grouped alveolar sac. Individual alveoli appear as rounded air sacs packed side by side, separated by thin interalveolar septa that create a subtly lobulated surface. Proximally, the cluster converges toward an alveolar duct, while the most distal alveoli sit at the periphery of the sac, creating a scalloped margin that emphasizes how tightly the gas-exchange units are arranged.
