Description
Frontal anatomy of the maxilla is presented with attention to the anterior (facial) surface flanking the piriform aperture and supporting the midface. The animation tracks the bone’s contours from the inferior margin of the orbit down to the alveolar process, locating the canine fossa lateral to the nasal aperture and the anterior nasal spine at the inferomedial midline. As the viewpoint shifts, the infraorbital foramen is identified superior to the canine fossa, and the zygomatic process is seen projecting laterally toward the zygomatic bone. Spatial relationships stay clear: orbit superior, oral cavity inferior, nasal cavity medial, and the zygomatic buttress lateral. Orientation to this surface matters in local anesthesia, trauma assessment, and surgical planning. Infraorbital nerve block relies on accurate localization of the infraorbital foramen relative to the orbital rim and maxillary dentition, while midface fractures (Le Fort patterns) propagate through the maxilla’s buttresses and around the nasal aperture in ways that are easier to grasp in motion than in a single frame. Subtle curvature changes around the canine fossa and anterior maxillary wall also frame the surgical corridor used in approaches to the maxillary sinus and orbital floor reconstruction.
