Description
Seen in combined right lateral and posterior views, the female lower limbs extend from the pelvis through the thigh, leg, and into the ankle and foot, with the gluteal contour and posterior thigh forming a continuous line to the popliteal region. Surface landmarks you would expect in this orientation include the iliac crest superiorly, the greater trochanter laterally at the proximal femur, and the gluteal fold marking the inferior border of the buttock overlying the proximal hamstrings. Distally, the calf profile suggests the gastrocnemius and soleus mass tapering into the calcaneal (Achilles) tendon, with the malleolar region and heel positioned inferior to the tibia and fibula. Posterior and lateral lower-limb anatomy is where alignment problems become obvious: pelvic tilt, hip extension, knee recurvatum, and hindfoot varus or valgus read clearly from the silhouette even when deep structures are not exposed.
