Centered in an anterior (frontal) view of an adult female torso, the brain sits superiorly within the cranial vault and gives rise to paired cranial nerves and a descending spinal cord, with peripheral nerves radiating laterally into the neck, thorax, and upper limbs. In the thorax, the heart lies slightly left of midline, with the aortic arch curving superiorly and major arteries and veins tracking inferiorly toward the abdominal aorta and inferior vena cava. Inferior to the diaphragm, the liver occupies the right upper quadrant beneath the costal margin while the stomach and spleen sit more leftward, and the small intestine coils centrally as the colon frames it peripherally.
