Description
Centered on the volar (anterior) wrist, the distal radius lies lateral to the distal ulna, with the radiocarpal joint line spanning to the proximal carpal row (scaphoid and lunate) just distal to the radial styloid and Lister’s line of the distal forearm. Superficial landmarks typically include the palmaris longus tendon in the midline when present, flexor carpi radialis coursing just lateral to it toward the bases of the second and third metacarpals, and flexor carpi ulnaris on the medial border inserting onto the pisiform. Deep to the flexor retinaculum, the flexor digitorum superficialis and profundus tendons pass centrally with the median nerve, while the ulnar nerve and ulnar artery run more medially within Guyon’s canal, and the radial artery tracks on the lateral side near the anatomical snuffbox region as it approaches the palm.
