Along the lateral thigh, the tensor fasciae latae blends into the iliotibial tract, running distally over the lateral femoral epicondyle toward Gerdy’s tubercle on the anterolateral tibia, while posterior to it the biceps femoris tendon tracks toward the fibular head. At the knee, the patella sits anterior to the distal femur, and the fibula remains posterolateral to the tibia down to the lateral malleolus; posteriorly, the gastrocnemius and soleus form the calf mass tapering into the calcaneal (Achilles) tendon toward the calcaneus, with the foot form partially obscured by socks.
